People planning to travel abroad after the end of March will be required to have six months left on their passport in the event of a no-deal Brexit.
The edit comes in a government notice to the travel industry over passport validity changes should the UK fall out of the European Union without a deal on March 29.
The key call to action is for customers to visit the HM Passport Office online passport checker on the government’s GOV.UK website to see if they are affected and renew their passport early if necessary.
For example, UK residents wanting to travel on March 30 – the day after the UK is due to leave the EU if there is no deal – must have a passport issued on or after October 1, 2009.

The Valkenburg Walram Hotel
Hotel Walram is a stone building which is typical of the South Limburg region. The hotel enjoys a perfect location on the banks of the River Geul, a 2 minute walk from the centre of Valkenburg. A family run hotel offering a very warm welcome to all guests. All bedrooms for this holiday are fully en-suite superior rooms.
Day 1 – Ferry from Dover to Calais then onto Valkenburg for your 3 night stay.
Day 2 – A day at leisure in Valkenburg, a fashionable and fortified town situated in the unusually hilly Dutch province of Limburg. Valkenburg’s attractions include a castle, museums, numerous bars, cafes and the highlight of the tour – the Valkenburg Christmas Market. The little spa town of Valkenburg comes alive with the advent of its Christmas Markets with stalls uniquely located inside caves (please note there is a small entrance charge to enter the caves) which are protected from the elements and open late into the evening.
Day 3 – The Monschau Christmas Market is small but beautiful. In December 1999 the town received an award for being one of the most beautiful Christmas Markets in Western Germany. Throughout the weekend there are free and exciting programmes including live brass band concerts, a living manger at 3pm and 5pm and Santa Claus who visits Monschau’s Christmas Market in the afternoons and evenings.
Day 4 – Depart the hotel after breakfast and make your way into Belgium with a stop at Bruges. Medieval Bruges known as the Venice of the North has a beautiful setting and is host to one of the most famous Christmas Markets in Belgium, offering the best of winter products, Christmas gifts and warn gluhwein and snacks. We then continue onto Calais for your early evening ferry and home.
