Stow Maries with Afternoon Tea & Guided Tour

Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome is unique in history.  It is the largest known surviving group of the Royal Flying Corps buildings on a WWI aerodrome.  When considered with its growing collection of objects directly related on the site and its activities , a truly unique resource is evident.  Originally opened in 1926, the aerodrome saw the birth of the Air Defence of Great Britain in response to the first raids by Zeppelins on London and the South East.  In the 2nd World War the aerodrome played a key role in the Battle of Britain.  Our visit includes a luxury cream tea, a one hour guided tour and time to wander the site and buy souvenirs.  Depart 4.30pm.

Midsomer Murder TV Tour

Another terrific detective day out, exploring the locations of one of the most popular programmes on TV.  Our first class guide joins us on the coach as we take in many villages where filming took place.  Some of the locations are reached via short walks, as some of the sets were on private land and are only accessible with our guide. Light refreshments are included as part of the day.

Mid Hants Railway & Milestones Museum

After a short comfort stop we arrive in Basingstoke.  Immerse yourself in the past at Milestones, Hampshire’s museum of living history.  Explore the museum’s streets, shops and buildings to discover how people used to live, buy a ration of sweets from the 1940’s sweet shop, view a unique collection of vintage vehicles and have a go in the penny arcade, not to mention the working pub!  Later in the day we drive down the scenic Candover Valley to Alresford where we take a ride on the Mid Hants Railway complete with steam engine.

Burghley House is a truly magnificent Tudor mansion on a grand scale, with 35 major rooms on the ground and first floors.  Owned by the Cecil family for centuries, they have over the years, assembled the finest collection of Italian Master paintings in the world.  These paintings along with many other important artefacts are on display around the house.  This magnificent estate is set in 2,000 acres of cultivated gardens which include a deep park all created by Capability Brown.  After time here we then visit the nearby picturesque town of Stamford on the banks of the River Welland.  Depart 5pm.

Barnsdale Gardens has 38 individual gardens in an eight acre site and were made famous by Geoff Hamilton through the BBC television series Gardeners’ World which he presented from 1979 until his death in 1996.  Later in the afternoon we head off to Rutland Water, for a short cruise on the Rutland Belle.

Kentish Lady River Cruise & Allington Castle & Gardens

After a couple of hours shopping and time for lunch in Maidstone, we then make our way to board the Kentish Lady for this exclusive and unique excursion to experience the scenic River Medway combined with a guided tour of Allington Castle’s beautiful gardens, courtyards and also its impressive Great Hall.  Allington Castle is possibly Kent’s best kept secret as it is NOT open to the public and can only be visited as a group via the Kentish Lady.  The 13th Century medieval castle is nestled in 42 acres of beautiful gardens next to the river.  This privately owned estate with Italian gardens, lavender walk, parterre, courtyard & formal ponds, surrounded by a moat and fronted by two lakes, really is an incredible place to visit.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Not synonymous with tourism, but Ipswich is a gem of a town where you can take a stroll along the waters edge on Ipswich’s iconic waterfront, where cafe’s and restaurants stand alongside galleries, shops and museums, while yachts and boats sail in and out of the marina.  It’s a scene not dissimilar to Orford Quay, or Woodbridge’s riverside.  Ipswich also has many medieval buildings and a fine shopping area.  Depart 5pm.

The Royal International Air Tattoo is regarded as the finest air show in the world, where you can get up close and personal with many aircraft.  This stunning Tattoo has a plethora of air displays, including the Red Arrows, for whom this will be the last display of the year before they jet off to America.  A festival atmosphere abounds at this great event.

Beaulieu Motor Museum & Lyndhurst in The New Forest

A brilliant day out to the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, where over 250 iconic vehicles are on display.  Your included ticked also gives entry to the fine Palace House, owned by the Montague family since 1538, Beaulieu Abbey, once a vast medieval Abbey before the dissolution, the grounds and gardens plus many other on site attractions.  Later in the afternoon, we drive through the forest to Lyndhurst, the administrative centre for the forest.  Depart 5pm.

Leeds Castle Carnival of 900 Years of History

Leeds Castle is celebrating 900 years in history in 2019.  The Castle has been lived in throughout nine centuries, owned by six medieval queens, Kind Henry VIII and latterly in 1926 by Olive, Lady Baillie who organised splendid weekend parties for stars of the silver screen, top politicians and royalty of the day.  Today’s 900 year celebration carnival will be a dazzling riot of colour, music, dance and giant costumes will travel through nine centuries of the Castle’s history.  Depart 5pm.
