The De La Mer Hotel

The De La Mer Hotel prides itself on giving guests a warm welcome and a great experience from the moment they book to the moment they leave.  The hotel is owned and has been managed by the Tillen family for almost 40 years, and their wealth of experience shines through in the way the hotel is operated.  A delightful hotel set on the beautiful Babbacombe Downs.  With so many guests returning year after year they must be getting something right.  Please note that there is no lift and access to bedrooms may be via stairs.

5 DAYS  -A full excursion, firstly to Exeter, the historic county town of Devon with the highlight being its wonderful 11th Century Cathedral which houses the clock where the nursery rhyme Hickory Dickory Dock originates from.  After time in the city, we travel to Exmouth for a leisurely cruise on the River Exe, which includes an informative commentary with complimentary tea and coffee.  A half day excursion to Buckfast Abbey.  This splendid building has rebuilt as a labour of love by Benedictine Monks, no more than 6 at any one time, who all had very little experience of building skills, a truly marvellous achievement.
8 DAYS – As above, plus a full day excursion to two delightful traditional seaside towns, Dawlish and Teignmouth.  Dawlish is very picturesque and famous for the Black Swans that occupy the small river that flows through the resort.  Teignmouth has quaint narrow streets, traditional pier and a lovely sandy beach.

Paignton

The lovely seaside town of Paignton is  part of the beautiful area known as the “English Riviera”. It’s famous seafront green is a wonderful place to relax and take everything in.  Paignton remains a popular, traditional seaside resort, with a lot more level walking than that of neighbouring Torquay.  During the summer months you will find the area hosts many festivals and fairs, in addition to many other exhibitions and events which are held on the green.

    The Bedford Hotel

One of the first Regency houses to be built on the seafront in Sidmouth was Wallis’s Royal Marine Library and Reading Rooms.  This was the early nineteenth-century meeting place for Sidmouth’s fashionable summer visitors.  In a commanding position, it’s now the centre-piece of the Bedford Hotel and an historic feature of Sidmouth Esplanade.  The Bedford is now the pride of the Pyne family.  Located at the heart of Sidmouth’s seafront means many rooms boast breathtaking panoramic views across Lyme Bay.  As you’d expect, the hotel also has comfortable lounges and offers a wide selection of good food and wine in a choice of attractive surroundings.  All rooms are tastefully decorated and modernised whilst keeping their traditional feel.  The bedrooms are individually styled, all have en-suite facilities, TV, hair-dryer and many rooms have breathtaking sea views over Lyme bay and the Jurassic Coast.  A lift serves all floors.
