Arundel and the medieval castle

Firstly we spend time in the small market town of Arundel in the South Downs National Park in West Sussex. Straddling the river Arun, one of the fastest flowing rivers in Europe, the much conserved market town captures the essence of heritage, urban chic and country pursuits and there’s more to discover than you think. Arundel combines one thousand years of history with independent shops, contemporary art galleries, restaurants, cafés and delightful drinking spots. Without a doubt, the most dominant structure is the impressive medieval castle which looms high on the hill above the town. Explore it’s vast gardens, state rooms, portcullis, drawbridge, medieval defences and the impressive keep, along with nearly 1000 years of history, there is plenty to discover in this fantastic castle. A great day out.
